Fort Sackville in Art

Many artists have sought to depict this Clark Western campaign through drawings, sketches and paintings. Some of the most well know depiction of the event come from a native Indiana Hoosier painter, Frederick Coffay Yohn. One of his paintings of Hamilton’s surrender to Clark at Fort Sackville even made it on to a 1929 issue U.S. postage stamp which celebrated the 150th anniversary of the event.

In addition, there are seven murals depicting events from the expedition that are installed inside the George Rogers Clark Memorial in Vincennes. These paintings stand 28 feet tall and 16 feet long and took artist Ezra Winter and six assistants two years to complete.
