Supplying Aid to Americans

After Clark’s initial success at Kaskaskia and Cahokia in winning the support of the French inhabitants, Vigo decided to join with his friend Lt. Governor de Leyba who was giving aid to the Americans. Vigo offered to help Clark by providing supplies from his own store and loaning Clark money to buy additional supplies elsewhere. Thus, Vigo became one of the chief financiers of Clark’s expedition.
